I just, can't get over how atrociously bad the writing in this film is lol.

and not even like, the gaping holes in logic necessary for the movie to even work. just like, the basic writing isn't good. Forced plot points all over, shoving in well tread origin story beats because it has to tie in with nostalgia beats, dull villains, and just zero weight to everything. The audience knows what's about to happen at every step, it's so boring.

this is like a glimpse of the future of Marvel films I feel, where the constant references to other films is the point of the film. where there's barely even a movie that stands on its own because it relies entirely on different movies to fill in the emotional plot beats.

movies that become nothing but referential fan service of films that themselves aren't anything but references to other things.

@maolfunction I mean, the comics have long, long since become this lol

@MochaKoffee hence why I don't read the comics anymore lol

it blows my mind that Feige seems intent on driving the MCU onto the exact same trajectory as the comics. those things that famously almost no one but diehard fans touch

@maolfunction The best thing about the MCU has been that it filters out the comic's worst impulses for a more mainstream audience, but eventually that will start to wane as well lol

Except they won't have the out that the comics do with the "hey go read this if you want to know what the hell's going on" panel.

@maolfunction I do wonder how long it'll take for the MCU to become *too* big, and people start talking about how there's too much stuff for a normal person to have to watch and remember.

People kick and scream about there being too much UC Gundam stuff, and the MCU's getting there lol

@MochaKoffee that's what I'm waiting for. the moment where there's simply too much Marvel for the average person to give a damn because they've missed 10 movies or something

@maolfunction I still think Endgame's going to be the Mostly Checked Out spot for the vast majority of people.

At least until X-Men, of course, lol. Disney's gonna milk Wolverine even drier than the comics do.
